Coaches & Curriculum

Designed by Pros.
Delivered with Care.

Futures isn’t a side program for us. It’s the foundation our entire academy is built on — designed by a UEFA-licensed coach and delivered by a full-time youth development specialist.

Owner · Curriculum Architect

UEFA-Licensed Coach SFA Owner Curriculum Design

James designed the Futures curriculum from the ground up — blending UEFA methodology with age-appropriate progression for young learners. He doesn’t lead Futures sessions on the field, but every drill, every game, and every progression Kevin uses was built in close collaboration with him.

At this age, we’re not building soccer players. We’re building kids who fall in love with the game. The skills come next — and they come faster when the love is real.

Inside a Session

What 60 Minutes
Actually Looks Like.

Every Futures session follows the same five-phase structure. Predictable rhythm is how 6- and 7-year-olds build confidence, focus, and the early instincts that turn into real soccer skills.

1
0:00 – 10:00

Welcome & Warm-Up

Adventure-themed movement and quick ball familiarity. Players arrive, settle in, and shake off the day. The goal here is energy and engagement — not instruction.

Building: Movement Engagement Focus
2
10:00 – 25:00

Technical Skills

Foundational ball work — dribbling, simple turns, basic touches with both feet. Short, fast rotations keep attention high and give every player real reps with the ball.

Building: Ball Mastery Coordination Both Feet
3
25:00 – 40:00

Skill Application

1v1 challenges and pattern-based drills. Players take what they just practiced and use it under light pressure — the moment skills start becoming instincts.

Building: Decision-Making Confidence 1v1 Comfort
4
40:00 – 55:00

Small-Sided Games

3v3 free play with simple rules. This is the part players come back for — real soccer, real teammates, real moments. Coaches step back and let the game teach.

Building: Teamwork Game Awareness Joy
5
55:00 – 60:00

Cool Down & Recap

Quick group circle. What we worked on today, what each player did well, what’s next. Then a clean handoff to parents — no scrambling, no confusion.

Building: Reflection Communication

What Parents Are Telling Us.

Real Futures families. Real progress. Real Columbus suburbs.

The Futures program has been incredible for my daughter. The coaches make learning fun, and I’m amazed at how much she’s grown in confidence and skill. It’s the perfect introduction to soccer.
JR
Jennifer R. New Albany · Futures family
Our son started Tiny Toes when he was four. Three years later, he’s finished Futures and moving into Weekly Academy. Same coaches, same building, same philosophy. He’s never had to start over — and it shows.
AG
Adam G. Bexley · Tiny Toes → Futures → WAT
Coach Kevin reads kids in a way I haven’t seen before. My son was hesitant his first session and laughing by week two. The structure stays consistent — which he needs — but the drills evolve. He tells me what he learned every single time.

Common Questions

Everything Parents Ask Us First.

Most of these come up during the free trial too — you’re not alone.

What ages does Futures serve?

Futures is for ages U6–U7 — six- and seven-year-olds. If your child is younger and ready, Tiny Toes (U3–U6) is the right starting point. Six-year-olds straddle both programs — we help you place your child appropriately at the free trial based on maturity and readiness, not just birthday.

What’s the player-to-coach ratio?

8:1. Significantly tighter than rec leagues and most academies in Columbus. At this age, the ratio is the difference between every child getting real coaching attention and a kid spending an hour standing in line waiting for their turn.

What’s the difference between Futures and Rec+?

Futures is training-only. Pure skill development, structured 60-minute sessions, no games on the schedule. Designed for players who want to build fundamentals first.

Rec+ is our U6–U7 league: 1× training + 1× game per week, more focused on the game environment and team play. Many families do both; others pick based on what their child responds to. We’ll help you choose at the free trial.

When and where are sessions held?

All Futures sessions are held indoors at our facility at 2901 E. 4th Ave, Columbus, OH 43219. Wednesdays and Fridays, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM. Year-round, regardless of weather.

What does my child need to bring?

We provide all the soccer equipment. Your child just needs:

• Comfortable athletic clothing
• Indoor soccer shoes or clean sneakers
• A water bottle

If you have an SFA training shirt from a previous program, wear it — but it’s not required for Futures.

What happens if we miss a session?

Make-up sessions are available within the same 4-week cycle, subject to availability. Just message us as soon as you know — earlier notice means easier rescheduling.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes. Families enrolling multiple children get a multi-child rate. Email Rachel at [email protected] or call (614) 300-0016 and she’ll walk you through it.

How will I know how my child is progressing?

Coach Kevin gives a progress update at the end of every 4-week cycle — what your child worked on, what’s clicked, and what’s next. Plus quick informal check-ins after most sessions during parent handoff.

What happens after Futures?

Most Futures players move into Weekly Academy Training at U8 — same building, often the same coaches, and a curriculum that builds directly on Futures fundamentals. We start that conversation in the final cycle of Futures so the transition is planned, not a surprise.

How do we get started?

Three steps:

1. Book a free trial session using the form above.
2. Come in, meet Coach Kevin, see if Futures is right for your child.
3. Choose Starter (1×/week) or Builder (2×/week), register, and start your first cycle.

Final Step

Let’s see if this is right
for your child.

60 minutes. 8:1 ratio. Completely free. No commitment, no follow-up sales pressure — just a session where you and your child can see Futures in action.
